Snowflake obsidian is a type of black volcanic glass with white or gray spots that resemble snowflakes. It is formed when felsic lava cools very quickly, preventing crystal growth, but contains inclusions of white, needle-shaped cristobalite crystals. Snowflake obsidian is used for jewelry and can be found in volcanic areas around the world, such as Utah, Mexico, and Iceland.
